Quick take

Lightweight carbon ice fishing reel with FreeFall trigger system for precise depth control and instant hookups on cold water fish.

This is the left-hand retrieve version of the 13 Fishing FreeFall Carbon, an inline ice reel with a 2.5:1 gear ratio and a carbon frame. Its trigger lets the spool drop freely to the depth you want and re-engage for the hookset, and the drop speed can be tuned magnetically. At 6.75 ounces with anti-reverse and a 6.6-pound maximum drag, it suits ice anglers working light jigs.

Best for

  • Ice fishing with lightweight jigs and sensitive presentations
  • Targeting panfish and walleye that require finesse technique
  • Anglers who want precise depth control on each drop

Skip if

  • You fish larger lures or live bait requiring more drag power
  • You prefer higher gear ratios for faster retrieves

Strengths

  • FreeFall trigger releases line instantly at your target depth and re-engages on hookup
  • Carbon frame and drag system are durable and resist ice buildup
  • Lightweight design reduces fatigue over long ice fishing sessions

Trade-offs

  • The 2.5:1 gear ratio is slow for retrieves, limiting depth coverage and speed
  • 6.6 LB max drag limits this reel to panfish and small walleye
  • The trigger system requires practice and technique to use effectively
