Quick take
Baitcasting reel with mechanical line counter for trolling and downrigging applications where exact line depth matters.
The 6500LC Ambassadeur Line Counter is a right-hand round baitcasting reel built for trolling and downrigging. Its mechanical counter reads out line in feet, so you can repeat the depth that produced fish, and a line-out alarm and level wind keep things tidy. A 5.3:1 gear ratio brings in about 25.5 inches per turn, and the carbon fiber star drag tops out at 15 pounds.
Best for
- Trolling for walleye or pike where you need precise line depth
- Downrigging with weight systems where counting line is critical
- Anglers who want to return to the same depth on successive casts
Skip if
- You cast lures from shore; this reel is designed only for trolling
- You want a smooth drag system; star drag requires active adjustment
Strengths
- Mechanical line counter accurately measures line in feet as it deploys
- Low-profile baitcasting design minimizes twist in trolling lines
- Carbon fiber star drag provides consistent pressure when set correctly
Trade-offs
