Quick take
A round baitcaster with stainless steel bearings and carbon matrix drag tuned for casting heavy lures and big catfish.
This is the 7000 size of the Abu Garcia C3 Catfish Special, a round baitcasting reel built for heavier catfish work. It pairs a Carbon Matrix drag with a 6-pin centrifugal brake and a synchronized level wind, and has a 4.1:1 gear ratio with a right-hand retrieve. Pick it if you want the larger frame in this family for bigger water and heavier line.
Best for
- Casting large swimbaits and musky lures
- Catfish and other big freshwater species
- Anglers who want smooth drag under load
Skip if
- You prefer low-profile reels for lighter applications
- You need a compact reel for small rods
Strengths
- Carbon Matrix drag system holds pressure smoothly across the full range
- Centrifugal brake on the spool keeps casts under control
- Synchronized level wind ensures even line lay
Trade-offs
- Round reels are bulkier than low-profile designs and harder to palm
- The 4.1 ratio is slower, so retrieves take longer
- This size suits heavy gear; lighter rods will feel imbalanced
