Quick take

A lightweight Abu Garcia spinning reel with a 6.1:1 gear ratio and 3 kg drag for freshwater and light saltwater spinning presentations.

The Abu Garcia Revo SP Beast 2000SH is a compact spinning reel with a high-speed 6.1:1 gear ratio and a 3 kg maximum drag. It weighs about 6.2 oz and recovers roughly 80 cm of line per handle turn, so it picks up slack quickly. Anglers who fish light lures for bass or trout with mono, fluorocarbon or braid will find the size and speed a handy fit.

Best for

  • Lightweight spinning setups for freshwater and small saltwater
  • Anglers seeking a compact reel with adequate drag
  • All-around general-purpose spinning fishing

Skip if

  • You need ultra-high line capacity for large saltwater species
  • You prefer slower retrieves for topwater or finesse techniques

Strengths

  • Lightweight at 6.2 oz reduces rod fatigue on all-day sessions
  • 6.1:1 ratio balances speed and power for varied presentations
  • Die-cast aluminum body resists corrosion in saltwater

Trade-offs

  • Compact 2000 size limits line capacity for distant casts
  • 3 kg drag is moderate and not suitable for large gamefish
  • Lighter construction may not withstand heavy saltwater trolling
