Quick take
A 5-foot ultra-light trout rod with lightweight Fuji guides and split cork grip for stream and small-river casting.
The Abu Garcia Troutfield TFS-502UL is a one-piece, 5-foot spinning rod in ultra light power, built for lure fishing for trout in natural streams. It has a graphite blank with a regular action and a cork handle, and it comes with a protective case. Anglers working small spoons, spinners and light plugs on creeks and rivers will find it a fitting match.
Best for
- Native trout streams and small rivers
- Ultra-light lure fishing
- Anglers who prefer sensitive rods for small baits
Skip if
- You fish larger rivers; a longer rod casts farther
- You need to throw heavier lures
Strengths
- Ultra-light power and 2-6g lure range suit small streams perfectly
- Fuji KR guides are 50% lighter and increase sensitivity
- Split cork grip provides both control and reduced weight
- 67g total weight tires your arm less on long days
Trade-offs
- Ultra-light power limits hook-setting on bigger trout
- 2-6lb line range requires careful knot work and drag adjustment
- 5-foot length casts short distances
