Quick take
A small 1/4 oz solid brass spoon with a polished copper finish that does not bend, break or tarnish with use.
A heavy 2 oz chrome casting spoon built for open water and big fish. Its weight reaches far from the surf or a boat, and it fits trolling and heavy spinning setups. Striped bass, lake trout and salmon are the typical targets.
Best for
- Ultralight spinning with 2-4 lb line for trout and panfish
- Ice jigging for perch and crappie
- Small streams where light lures are essential
Skip if
- You need long casts in heavy wind
- You fish heavy cover and weeds
Strengths
- Machined solid brass construction will not break or bend from strikes or impacts
- Polished copper maintains shine even after repeated saltwater exposure
- Light 1/4 oz weight allows casting on ultralight line without heavy lure weight
Trade-offs
- Small size limits this lure to small fish and requires matching light line
- Copper finish can tarnish in storage if not kept dry
- Solid brass makes it heavier and faster-sinking than other 1/4 oz lures

About this type
A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.
Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.
Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
