Quick take
A 105 lb test single-strand stainless steel wire leader for targeting sharks and other toothy fish in offshore and surf rigs.
This is AFW's Tooth Proof single strand stainless leader wire in size #9, a 105 lb test coil of 30 feet in a brown camo finish. It is a stiff wire meant for bite traces ahead of toothy fish such as sharks, pike and muskie. Anglers rigging baits or building custom leaders for surf and offshore work reach for it when mono would be cut through.
Best for
- Shark fishing and offshore rigs with toothy species
- Saltwater surf fishing for powerful game fish
- Custom leader building for heavy tackle setups
Skip if
- You fish freshwater trout or bass
- You need flexible leader material for light presentations
Strengths
- Stainless steel resists corrosion in saltwater
- Hard, non-brittle wire holds against sharp teeth
- Torsion-straightened design minimizes cast memory
Trade-offs
- Wire is hard to tie; requires crimps or haywire twists
- 105 lb test is overkill for most saltwater fish
- Camo finish may be unnecessary for shark fishing
