Quick take
A 5-foot polyleader that transitions from fly line to leader with selectable sink rates.
The AIRFLO Trout Polyleader 5ft is a short, fast-sinking leader for anglers who want a fly to reach deeper water quickly. It pairs a polymer coating over a monofilament core with a welded butt loop, a build that suits presenting flies on a fly rod. At five feet, it is a practical choice for trout streams and lakes.
Best for
- Nymph fishing at varying depths
- Streamers where depth control is critical
- Loading fly rods with large flies
Skip if
- You fish only dry flies
- You prefer traditional leaders
Strengths
- Multiple sink rate options suit different water depths
- Shovel head penetrates quickly to the target zone
- Micro loops simplify rigging to fly line and leader
Trade-offs
- Adds weight between fly line and leader
- Requires learning which sink rate for each situation
- Polyleaders are less forgiving on hooksets than direct fly line
