Quick take

A soft single-strand stainless steel wire that sinks rapidly for reaching deep trolling depths with less line.

Best for

  • Trolling for stripers and offshore species in deep water
  • Reaching bottom-feeding fish quickly without long line lengths
  • Freshwater and saltwater trolling applications

Skip if

  • You troll with crankbaits in shallow water
  • You need easy line changes or casting ability

Strengths

  • Rapid sink rate lets you reach deep water with shorter lengths
  • Stainless steel resists kinks and abrasion on bottom structure
  • Small diameter per pound test provides higher reel capacity

Trade-offs

  • Wire cannot be used with spinning reels without special setup
  • Cannot be cast; trolling use only
  • Sharp edges can cut hands if not handled carefully
