Quick take
Portable line winder with ball-bearing rotation for eliminating twist when spooling spinning and baitcasting reels.
This portable line spooler holds a filler spool on a rotating carriage so line goes onto a spinning or baitcasting reel without picking up twist. A graphite frame, ball-bearing rotation and adjustable tension suit mono, braid or fluorocarbon. Bushings let it hold flat and smaller spools, making it a handy tool for respooling at home or at the lake.
Best for
- Spooling new reel setups
- Switching line types between trips
- Reducing line memory and twist
Skip if
- You spool line at a tackle shop
- You rarely respool between trips
Strengths
- Ball-bearing rotation eliminates twist that causes tangles
- Adjustable tension works with any line type
- Compact graphite frame is portable
Trade-offs
- Requires a drill or manual spinning to activate
- Takes time to properly tension and spool line
- Does not wind line onto reel—you still must turn handle
