Quick take
A push/pull hook remover that safely dislodges hooks without harming the fish.
The Angler's Choice TBL-095 is a 9.5-inch push/pull hook remover with a spear point, made by a Minnesota tackle maker. The long handle keeps your fingers back from the hooks when you back one out of a fish. It is a single piece that weighs about 1.6 ounces in its package, so it rides easily in a tackle box or vest.
Best for
- Barbless or small barbed hooks
- Catch-and-release fishing
- Removing hooks from small to medium fish
Skip if
- You fish with large offshore hooks frequently
- You need a tool for trophy-size fish
Strengths
- Simple push/pull mechanism works quickly to back out hooks
- Suitable for a wide range of hook sizes
- Compact design fits easily into tackle bags
Trade-offs
- May not grip large or deep-set hooks well
- Plastic construction limits durability in heavy use
- Requires care not to drop in water
