Quick take
A simple plastic grabber for holding fish by the gills, designed to protect the fish during handling.
The DaHook is a molded poly plastic fish grabber that holds a fish through the gills so you can lift it without touching it with cold, wet hands. It measures about 4 inches wide by 6 inches tall and weighs roughly 3 ounces, small enough to slip into a tackle box. A 100 lb weight capacity and a smooth finish make it a handy tool for ice fishing and for unhooking and releasing catches.
Best for
- Ice fishing where bare hands get cold in freezing conditions
- Catch-and-release fishing that prioritizes fish health
- Anglers who fish alone and need one-handed control
Skip if
- You intend to keep your catch and do not need gentle handling
- You prefer to net fish for closer examination before handling
Strengths
- Smooth plastic finish does not damage gill plates and scales
- Simple two-finger grip is easy to use even with cold or wet hands
- Lightweight and compact enough to store in a tackle box
Trade-offs
- Holding capacity and grip strength are limited for larger fish
- Plastic construction will eventually crack or fade from UV exposure
- Design works for single-handed use but limits control
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
