Quick take

A jointed topwater lure with rhythmic surface-busting action, effective for night fishing and bass in any light.

This is the jointed Jitterbug, a 3.5 inch, 5/8 oz floating topwater plug in black from Arbogast. Its lip makes a loud, rhythmic splash on the surface, and the jointed body adds tail motion. Black is a natural choice for night trips for bass, and it can be retrieved slowly for steady plops or faster for more commotion.

Best for

  • Bass in low-light conditions
  • Topwater feeding fish at dusk and dawn
  • Night fishing with sound

Skip if

  • You want a silent lure
  • You fish heavily weeded areas

Strengths

  • Double-cupped lip produces loud surface commotion that attracts strikes
  • Jointed body creates lifelike swimming action
  • Proven design with decades of success

Trade-offs

  • Jointed construction can wear at the hinge with heavy use
