Quick take

A heavy-duty fly line with aggressive head and longer taper designed for casting large saltwater and freshwater flies at extreme distances.

Best for

  • Saltwater fly fishing for large species like tarpon
  • Casting heavy streamers and large nymphs
  • Fishing large Western rivers with switch rods

Skip if

  • You fish small trout streams
  • You need ultralight finesse presentations

Strengths

  • Aggressive head concentrates weight for easier loading
  • Ultra-low stretch core maximizes sensitivity
  • Dual-tone and reference points aid distance estimation

Trade-offs

  • Very heavy line; requires rods rated for its weight
  • Aggressive head sacrifices delicate presentation
  • Not suitable for fishing small flies to selective trout
