Quick take
A long telescoping pole for panfish and crappie, extending to 20 feet with a lightweight synthetic blank.
This 12-foot, two-piece Pro Staff trolling rod from B&M is built for pulling crankbaits, jigs or live bait behind a boat. A graphite blank and a fast action give it a stiff, responsive feel, and the cork handle suits long sessions holding it. It is a natural fit for crappie anglers who troll or spider-rig.
Best for
- Reaching panfish under docks and overhanging trees
- Light line jigging for crappie in timber
- Bank and pier fishing where distance helps
Skip if
- You need a sensitive rod for detecting light bites
- You fish in windy conditions; length catches wind
Strengths
- 20-foot reach gets to fish under cover from distance
- Lightweight design reduces fatigue in long sessions
- Fast action loads quickly for hook sets
Trade-offs
- Long extended length is hard to control in wind
- Synthetic blank lacks sensitivity of graphite
- Fast action can break small panfish
