Quick take

A lightweight crappie reel designed for vertical jigging, weighing under two ounces for all-day comfort.

The B'n'M Buck's Best Ultralight is a small crappie and panfish reel with a crush-resistant ABS body that weighs only about 1.6 ounces. Two bearings and an adjustable drag keep it smooth for all-day vertical jigging. It holds roughly 50 yards of 10-pound monofilament and works for either hand, which suits anglers building a light crappie rig.

Best for

  • Vertical jigging for crappie
  • Panfish in shallow water
  • Ultralight finesse setups

Skip if

  • You need a reel for thick line or heavy lures
  • You fish saltwater

Strengths

  • 2 ball bearings provide smooth operation for frequent drop and lift jigging

Trade-offs

  • The small spool holds limited line, requiring regular re-spooling for extended outings
  • The 1:1 gear ratio retrieves slowly, suited only for vertical presentations
  • The crush-resistant plastic body is not as durable as metal constructions
