Quick take
An ultralight graphite rod with fast action, tailored to light line and small jigs for crappie.
This two-piece spinning rod from B'n'M's Duck Commander series is built for crappie and other panfish. It pairs an IM6 graphite blank with a cork handle and stainless steel guides, and chartreuse wraps help you keep track of depth. The ultra light power and fast action suit small jigs on 2 to 6 pound line.
Best for
- Crappie on small jigs around brush and trees
- Panfish in ponds on ultralight line
- Vertical jigging in winter crappie holes
Skip if
- You need a versatile rod for multiple species; this is crappie-specific
- You fish heavy cover; ultralight power lacks backbone
Strengths
- IM6 graphite blank provides excellent sensitivity despite the ultralight power
- 5'6" length works well for vertical presentations and brush fishing
- Chartreuse depth-monitoring wraps help gauge water column
Trade-offs
- Ultralight power is delicate and does not tolerate heavy baits or snags
- 2-6 lb line requires patience when a big fish is hooked
- The fast action and light taper make hook-setting precise but unforgiving
