Quick take
Convertible mittens that flip open to expose your fingers for tying knots while keeping your hands warm during ice fishing.
These convertible mittens are made for cold-water days on the ice or the bank. A magnetic flip-top and thumb hood fold back to turn them into fingerless gloves, so you can tie knots or use a phone without taking them off. The shell is a stretchy water-resistant polyester-spandex blend over fleece insulation, with a silicone-grip palm, an inner pocket for a hand warmer and elastic wrist cuffs to keep cold air out.
Best for
- Extended ice fishing in sub-freezing temperatures
- Anglers who need to switch frequently between full protection and finger access
- Ice shelters or situations where you alternate between active and still fishing
Skip if
- You need maximum dexterity for fast rigging; use fingerless gloves or thin liners instead
- You fish in moderately cold weather only; heavier insulation than needed
Strengths
- Magnetic flip design holds flaps back securely without dropping them in the snow
- Layered insulation with plush lining maintains warmth even when wet
- Hand warmer pocket lets you add heat packs on the coldest days
Trade-offs
- Bulky design reduces fine motor control compared to thinner gloves
- Synthetic leather palm wears faster than genuine leather with heavy use
- Wrist straps must be adjusted carefully to keep cold air out
