Quick take
Soft plastic maggot imitations soaked in a potent attractant that expands your strike zone.
Berkley Gulp! Alive! Maggots in Red Wiggler are soft plastic baits that stand in for live maggots without the mess of keeping them. They are soaked in scent and meant to be rigged the way you would rig live bait, which suits crappie, panfish and trout. Drop them back in the jar between casts to recharge the scent.
Best for
- Panfish and crappie on ultralight tackle
- Float fishing in ponds and small lakes
- Anglers who want to avoid handling live bait
Skip if
- You prefer live maggots for maximum scent dispersion
- You need durable baits for multiple species
Strengths
- Realistic appearance and texture closely match real maggots
- Scent-impregnated formula attracts fish over a wider area
- Bait can be refreshed in the bucket to restore scent
Trade-offs
- Softer construction makes them prone to tearing on cast
- Scent dissipates over time and between uses
- Less hardy than live bait in dynamic water
