Quick take
A 4 inch soft plastic creature with a saber tail and PowerBait scent, designed for flipping into heavy cover.
The Pit Boss is a 4 inch soft plastic in Green Pumpkin, designed with pro angler Skeet Reese for flipping and pitching into heavy cover. Its saber tail gives a fluttering action meant to suggest both baitfish and crawfish, and a slotted keeper holds the hook in place. It comes as a pack of 8, with PowerBait scent built in, and it suits anglers working docks, grass and brush for bass.
Best for
- Flipping and pitching into dense vegetation
- Bass fishing in thick weeds and timber
- Presentations that mimic crawfish and baitfish
Skip if
- You fish open water where finesse worms work better
- You prefer sinking presentations over topwater
Strengths
- Saber tail design flutters at slow speeds
- PowerBait scent adds chemical attraction
- Slotted hook keeper aids hook set when flipping heavy cover
Trade-offs
- 4 inches is bulky for small bass and panfish
- Soft plastic durability declines quickly in thick weeds
- PowerBait scent washes off and limits durability

About this type
A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.
Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.
Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
