Quick take
A handmade cast net with zinc sinker weights for quick sinking in saltwater, designed for capturing small baitfish.
This 5 ft radius cast net is a black round nylon net built for throwing over bait in fresh or salt water. Its lead weights are meant to sink the edges quickly so baitfish stay inside when the net closes. A rubber handle gives a firm grip for casting, and the 5 ft radius is a manageable size for anglers learning to throw a net.
Best for
- Catching live bait in saltwater
- Trapping crawfish and shrimp
- Beginning and experienced casters
Skip if
- You fish in heavy vegetation or rocks
- You need a net that opens fully in wind
Strengths
- Zinc sinker weights do not corrode in saltwater
- Reinforced nylon stitching holds the net through repeated casts
- Fine mesh catches even small baitfish
Trade-offs
- Zinc sinkers make the net heavy when wet
- Handmade construction means slight variations between nets
- Fine mesh is harder to disengage from debris than coarser mesh
