Quick take
A 4-foot yellow cast net with 0.375-inch mesh for scooping live bait and small fish.
The Betts Buddy is a 4-foot cast net with 3/8-inch mesh, made for anglers who want to throw for bait along the shoreline. It is built to be portable, so it packs away easily in a boat or a tackle bag between stops. It suits anyone starting out with a simple net for shad and small baitfish.
Best for
- Scooping live shiners and baitfish from shallows
- Crabbing and shrimping with manageable 4-foot reach
- Anglers who fish where live bait is available on site
Skip if
- You need reach beyond 4 feet; larger nets are available
- You're casting in deep water; 4 feet is shallow-water only
Strengths
- 4-foot size is manageable for one person from shore or a boat
- Yellow color is visible when wet; easy to track in the water
- 0.375-inch mesh retains small baitfish
Trade-offs
- Small 4-foot net limits scooping area compared to 5-6 foot nets
- Synthetic handle can become slippery when wet or sandy
- Casting technique takes practice; beginners tangle often
