Quick take
Painted lead sinkers rigged with a trailing hook-up point that keep live bait off the bottom during trolling for walleye.
Bullet Weights' painted bottom bouncers are a walleye trolling rig built on a bent wire with a lead weight on its upright arm, which lets the bait trail just above bottom on a leader. The six-pack spans sizes from 1/8 to 3 ounces, so anglers can match the weight to depth and current. Orange is one of the two paint colors offered.
Best for
- Walleye trolling from a moving boat
- Anglers fishing live minnows and leeches
- Presentations where bait must stay suspended above bottom structure
Skip if
- You fish stationary on the bottom
- You want a sinker that requires no assembly
Strengths
- Painted finish reduces visibility compared to bare lead
- Trailing design keeps bait at the right height on the retrieve
- Orange color is easily seen by the angler when checking or re-rigging
Trade-offs
- Bottom bouncers require more setup than simple sinkers
- Lead requires careful handling for health reasons
