Quick take
A super-concentrated sinking menhaden oil that creates a scent cloud miles long when diluted.
Chum Cloud is a menhaden oil blend made to sink through the water and spread into a cloud of baitfish scent, aimed at saltwater species such as king mackerel, cobia, snapper and grouper. One gallon makes five gallons of mix, and the oil needs no refrigeration. Anglers can drip it over the side of the boat or use it to soak trolled baits.
Best for
- Bottom fishing for snapper and grouper
- Trolling rigs for king mackerel and cobia
- Saltwater chum lines for striped bass and pelagics
Skip if
- You fish freshwater exclusively
- You need baitfish imitations rather than scent
Strengths
- Sinking formula reaches deep water and bottom
- Highly concentrated; one-eighth teaspoon makes a large cloud
- Works in both saltwater and freshwater applications
Trade-offs
- Requires dilution with water to use effectively
- Oily consistency may make handling messy
- Scent dispersal depends on water movement and current
