Quick take
Lightweight nylon mesh trout net with gentle landing cup and long handle for safe live release of stream and river trout.
The Crystal River Live Release Net is a compact trout net with a wooden bow of roughly 14 by 7 inches and soft netting. It is meant for anglers who release their fish and want to handle them gently. A removable elastic lanyard lets you carry it on your person while wading, and the whole net weighs under a quarter pound.
Best for
- Fly fishing small streams where hand control and precise landing matter
- Catch-and-release trout fishing where fish survival is priority
- Walking creeks and rivers with the net slung over a shoulder strap
Skip if
- You fish large reservoirs with big stripers requiring larger nets
- You keep trout for food and need a net that holds with water
Strengths
- Nylon mesh is gentle on fish scales and fins; reduces injury
- Lightweight design minimizes arm fatigue on all-day fly fishing trips
- Long handle reaches trout feeding at distance without disturbing them
Trade-offs
- Nylon mesh clogs with algae and weeds after heavy use
- Small hoop limits net size and capacity for larger trout
- Live release design means water flows through; difficult to hold wet fish
