Quick take

A 42 x 42 in cast net with galvanized steel frame and 1/8 in mesh, sized for boat use and scooping bait in tight spaces.

This is a boat landing net from Cumings with a 30-inch handle, a 30-inch net depth and a clear nylon mesh bag sewn to a galvanized steel wire frame. The metal handle folds for storage, so it tucks away between trips. It suits anglers who want a roomy net within reach in the boat when a fish comes alongside.

Best for

  • Boat anglers and livewell maintenance
  • Catching very small bait and fry
  • Quick bait gathering in shallow water

Skip if

  • You are new to cast nets
  • You need to throw a net open water

Strengths

  • Small 1/8 in mesh catches even the tiniest fry
  • Galvanized steel frame resists rust and corrosion
  • Folds compact for stowing in a boat locker

Trade-offs

  • The 42 x 42 in size is too large to throw effectively
  • 1/8 in mesh clogged easily with debris or sediment
  • Heavier than a throwing net and harder to maneuver
