Quick take

A retractable stainless steel gaff pole in lengths from 4.8 to 16.4 ft with universal 8 mm screw mount for gig heads.

Best for

  • Gigging flounder and other bottom fish from shore or boat
  • Anglers who land large pike or pike-species fish
  • Rocky areas and reefs where gaffs are safer than nets

Skip if

  • You need to land and release fish unharmed
  • You fish exclusively in catch-and-release situations

Strengths

  • Stainless steel resists corrosion and salt damage
  • Retractable design stores compactly in vehicles or boats
  • Universal 8 mm mount works with aftermarket gig heads and harpoons

Trade-offs

  • Gaff hooks can injure fish, ending their life
  • Telescopic joints may flex slightly under load
  • Requires strong technique to deploy and retrieve safely
