Quick take

A 5000-size spinning reel with 6.2:1 gear ratio and stainless steel bearings for smooth retrieve.

This Daiwa Legalis LT spinning reel is the 2018 model in the LT5000D-CXH size, with a 6.2 gear ratio that picks up about 41 inches of line per handle turn. It weighs 8.8 oz, has an aluminum handle and stainless steel bearings, and its drag tops out at 26.5 lbs. An ambidextrous handle suits left- or right-hand cranking, which makes it a fit for anglers who want a larger spinning reel for heavier line.

Best for

  • Medium-sized freshwater and saltwater species
  • Anglers who value light weight and smooth performance
  • Both casting and trolling applications

Skip if

  • You need a compact ultralight reel; 5000 is mid-size
  • You prefer lower gear ratios for deep presentations

Strengths

  • 6.2:1 ratio balances speed and power for most situations
  • Stainless steel bearings handle saltwater conditions
  • Light weight reduces fatigue during long sessions

Trade-offs

  • Maximum drag of 26.5 lbs suits medium species
  • Higher gear ratio is better for speed than power
