Quick take
A lightweight baitcasting reel built for saltwater with a line counter for depth tracking.
The Daiwa Light SW X IC is a compact baitcasting reel with a built-in line counter, handy for anglers who want to repeat the same depth or casting distance. It weighs 8.5 oz and has a 6.3 gear ratio that picks up about 27 inches of line per handle turn. A 3.9 inch double handle with EVA knobs and a drag that tops out at 11 lb suit light braided-line setups.
Best for
- Lightweight saltwater trolling
- Anglers seeking a compact baitcaster for boat fishing
- Situations where precise line depth matters
Skip if
- You fish heavy braided line; the 200 lb capacity is limiting
- You need a high-speed reel for faster retrieves
Strengths
- Light weight at 8.5 oz reduces angler fatigue on all-day trips
- Double handle provides balance and comfort during extended casting
- Line counter eliminates need to count rotations for depth
Trade-offs
- Maximum drag of 11.0 lbs restricts use to light to medium saltwater species
- 1.4 inch spool is small and fills quickly with heavy line
- EVA handle knobs may slip when wet without a glove
Fishing fit
- Water
- Saltwater
