Quick take
A collapsible crab trap with side entrances and a removable bait bag, designed to catch crabs, lobster and shrimp from both saltwater and freshwater.
This collapsible round trap pairs a steel wire frame with polyethylene mesh and folds flat for carrying. It measures 23.6 by 11.8 inches with 0.39-inch mesh, and a bait bag hangs in the middle while crabs, crayfish or shrimp enter from the sides. The openable design makes emptying the catch easier, and it suits anglers who want a packable trap for salt or fresh water.
Best for
- Catching blue crabs and other crustaceans
- Easy trap retrieval with the open top design
- Portable setup for casual crabbing
Skip if
- You fish actively rather than set traps
- You need to catch fish, not crustaceans
Strengths
- Open top design allows easy removal of catch without being pinched
- Side entrances let prey enter from multiple directions
- Foldable design saves storage space
Trade-offs
- Trap is only effective when baited and left to soak
- Mesh size may let small crabs escape
- Steel wire requires drying and storage to prevent rust
