Quick take
A collapsible bait trap with 1/4 in mesh that catches minnows, crayfish, shrimp and other live bait.
This rectangular polyethylene bait trap opens to 11.8 x 11.8 x 15.7 inches and folds flat to about 2 inches for storage. Its 1/4 inch mesh suits catching bait such as minnows, shrimp and crawfish, with a round 1.97 inch entrance on each side. A semicircular opening on one side makes it simple to add bait and remove what you catch.
Best for
- Catching your own live bait from ponds and shallow water
- Situations where you need fresh bait and a net is too slow
- Anglers fishing in places where live bait is scarce
Skip if
- You prefer buying pre-packaged live bait from tackle shops
- You are fishing locations where bait trapping is not allowed
Strengths
- 1/4 in mesh is small enough to catch minnows and crayfish
- Folded size of less than 2 in makes it easy to carry in a pack
- Included hand rope and bait bag handle everything you need
Trade-offs
- Trap requires soaking and proper bait to attract prey inside
- Polyethylene may degrade over time in direct sunlight
- Large size of 11.8 x 15.7 in makes it bulky to carry when open
