Quick take
Sinking pencil bait with micro-lip for saltwater, designed for direct retrieves below the surface on heavy line and in wind.
The Duel Hardcore Heavy Shot is a 4.1-inch, 1.1 oz sinking pencil bait built for long casts, including into a headwind. A small lip lets it run fast just under the surface, and it rolls as it falls. Surf and shore anglers working open water can use it to cover distance.
Best for
- Sight casting to flats and drop-offs
- High-speed retrieve in strong current
- Areas with poor visibility or rough water
Skip if
- You need a floating lure for surface work
- You fish light line where the weight will break off
Strengths
- Micro-lip grips water firmly for high-speed retrieves without rising
- Rolling fall action induces bites on the pause
- Heavy weight and solid construction enable long casts in reverse wind
Trade-offs
- Sinking design means it dives on every retrieve
- Pencil baits are harder to control than wobbling plugs
- Heavy weight and dense body limit use on light tackle

About this type
A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.
Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.
Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
