Quick take

A sinking pencil lure at 4.3 inches and 1.8 oz, sized between smaller and larger options for sea bass jigging.

This 4.3 inch sinking pencil weighs 1.8 oz, a size made for long casts with sturdier sea bass rods. It has a through-wire body and drops in a rolling, horizontal posture. Work it with a skip, a jerk and roll, or a steady retrieve in salt or fresh water.

Best for

  • Saltwater jigging for striped bass and sea bass
  • Casting distance and vertical work in offshore reefs
  • Matching medium-sized baitfish in structure

Skip if

  • You fish light tackle; 1.8 oz requires a strong rod
  • You prefer floating lures that suspend at specific depths

Strengths

  • Exquisite sizing balances castability with jigging control
  • 1.8 oz weight allows use with stronger sea bass rods for casting distance
  • Sinking design reaches deep structure efficiently

Trade-offs

  • Heavy weight requires heavy conventional or strong spinning rods
  • Sinking lures don't pause at specific shallow depths
  • Requires active jigging technique to maintain bottom contact
