Quick take
A 6.5-inch saltwater minnow that casts like a bullet and darts on a steady retrieve.
The Mag Darter is a 6.5 inch floating diver in a green mackerel finish, built for casting distance with a magnetic weight transfer system. Its slanted head gives a darting, rolling action on a steady retrieve or with twitches. It carries three treble hooks on a thru-wire body, which suits surf and heavy current fishing for larger gamefish.
Best for
- Surf fishing and casting in heavy current
- Mackerel and stripers that feed on sand eels and silversides
- Covering water quickly in open water without structure
Skip if
- You fish tight cover; this lure will foul easily
- You need a sinking presentation
Strengths
- Magnetic weight transfer centers the line during cast for distance
- Thru-wire construction handles trophy-size fish and sharp teeth
- Polycarbonate body is tough enough for repeated rock strikes
Trade-offs
- Large profile and 3x trebles mean it gets caught on everything
- Not ideal for soft-strike situations; trebles hook deep

About this type
A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.
Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.
Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
