Quick take
A 9 ft medium-heavy 7-weight fly rod in four pieces, designed with fast action for improved distance and control.
This ECHO ION-XL is a 9-foot, 7-weight fly rod built from carbon fiber with a fast action and a split grip. It breaks into four pieces and comes with a rod tube, which makes it easy to pack for travel. A 7-weight suits anglers casting for bass and other larger freshwater species, and the lifetime warranty adds peace of mind.
Best for
- Trout and bass fishing in moderate to larger water
- Anglers moving from beginner to intermediate fly fishing
- Situations where you need to cast farther or in wind
Skip if
- You fish small, tight creeks where a shorter rod is better
- You want an ultra-light rod for delicate presentations
Strengths
- Carbon fiber blank provides excellent sensitivity and responsiveness
- Fast action lets you cast farther and load the rod quickly
- Four-piece construction makes transportation and storage convenient
Trade-offs
- 7-weight is heavy for small streams and panfish
- Fast action may feel twitchy to anglers used to slower rods
