Quick take
A 9-foot 5-weight fly rod in 4 pieces, made from carbon fiber with medium-fast action for trout and light salmon.
This 9-foot, 5-weight ECHO Lift is a four-piece fly rod with a medium-fast action, made of carbon fiber and sold with a rod tube. The 5-weight size suits trout and bass on open water, and the four sections pack down easily for travel. It is a sensible pick for an angler building a first all-around fly setup.
Best for
- Trout streams where a 5-weight is versatile for different flies
- Anglers fishing nymphs, dry flies and light streamers
- Backpackers needing a compact 4-piece rod
Skip if
- You fish large rivers where a 6-weight handles wind better
Strengths
- 9-foot length handles a wide range of fly weights and distances
- 4-piece design breaks down compactly for travel and storage
- Medium-fast action loads smoothly and casts efficiently
Trade-offs
- 4 pieces mean 4 joints to keep tight and aligned
- 5-weight limits you to smaller flies and lighter lines
