Quick take

Five-foot gaff with fiberglass shaft and stainless steel hook for landing large fish.

Best for

  • Netting large saltwater gamefish
  • Boat and dock fishing
  • Heavy fish that break nets

Skip if

  • You fish from shore and want portability
  • You target small fish that net easily

Strengths

  • Fiberglass construction is strong yet lightweight
  • Sharpened hook penetrates scales and skin reliably
  • Hook keeper prevents loss overboard

Trade-offs

  • Five feet is long and awkward to store in most vehicles
  • Stainless steel hook can still rust if not dried quickly
  • Non-slip grip can wear and become slippery over time
