Quick take
Synthetic bait strips soaked in scent that melt into the water column, sold in multiple colors.
This chartreuse squid-scent gel bait comes as two half-inch-wide, twelve-inch-long strips per bag. Cut a piece, thread it on the hook and cast. The fast-dissolving formula is tuned for cooler water at or below 60F, and fibers rather than a center mesh hold it on the hook. It also suits tipping offshore rigs and deep dropping.
Best for
- Deep dropping on offshore rigs
- Saltwater bottom fishing in cold water
- Bait fishing when live bait is inconvenient
Skip if
- You need bait that sinks slowly; use foam-based options
- You want a bait that holds on the hook for a long retrieve
Strengths
- Scent dissolves quickly in cold water or deep conditions
- No-mesh design relies on scent fibers for bait retention
- Comes in multiple colors to match light conditions
Trade-offs
- Bait strips can tear easily if not handled gently
- Fast-acting formula may empty the scent bag sooner than other baits
- Designed specifically for cold water or depth, not ideal for warm surface fishing
Fishing fit
- Water
- Saltwater
- Techniques
- Bottom fishing
