Quick take

Artificial clam-scented bait strips with interior mesh that stay on the hook through multiple casts and fish.

FishBites Fish'n Strips in Coquina Clam come as a bag of 15 pennant-shaped gel baits, each about 1.5 inches long. A mesh core runs through the gel to help hold the bait on the hook through repeated casts. The size suits 2/0 and 3/0 hooks, and the pennant shape also works for tipping jigs, which makes it a handy scented bait for panfish, crappie and trout anglers.

Best for

  • Bottom rigs for flounder, fluke, and pompano
  • Tipping jigs in saltwater
  • Situations where live bait spoils quickly or is unavailable

Skip if

  • You fish freshwater exclusively
  • You prefer fresh natural bait

Strengths

  • Longer-lasting gel formula keeps strips on hook cast after cast
  • Mesh interior prevents bait from sliding during cast and fight
  • Made in USA with quality control standards

Trade-offs

  • Gel formula works best in water temperatures above 70°F
  • Scent does not match all bottom-feeding fish species
  • Artificial formula may not attract aggressive strikers like fresh bait
