Quick take

A lightweight carbon fiber fly net with waterproof rubber mesh and floating design for stream and lake fly fishing.

The Nomad Mid-Length is a fly fishing landing net with a handle a little longer than the standard Nomad, made for anglers who tuck the net between a lumbar pack and their back. The frame is a carbon fiber and fiberglass composite with a clear rubber bag and a matte finish for grip. At 37 inches long with a 13 by 18 inch hoop, it suits wading anglers who want a compact, buoyant net.

Best for

  • Fly fishing in streams and rivers with a pack or vest
  • Wading while wearing a lumbar pack; the longer handle fits between pack and back
  • Fly fishing for trout and smaller to mid-size species

Skip if

  • You fish saltwater big game; the frame is too small

Strengths

  • Carbon fiber composite is very lightweight and durable
  • Waterproof and UV-protected rubber mesh resists degradation
  • Net floats like cork if dropped, making it easy to retrieve

Trade-offs

  • 18 in frame width is small for netting large fish or trophy species
  • Mid-length 37 in handle is longer than hand nets but shorter than guide nets
  • Rubber mesh is heavier than traditional knotless mesh on lighter nets
