Quick take
Telescoping frog gig with lightweight aluminum construction for gigging frogs and small fish from shore or boat.
The Frabill Deluxe Frog Gig is a telescoping aluminum pole that adjusts from 4 to 8 feet, with a lever lock to hold the length. It is built for frog gigging and carries tangle-free netting meant to keep hooks from snagging. At 16 ounces, it suits anglers who want a gig that collapses for carrying.
Best for
- Frog gigging during warm months in shallow water
- Spearfishing in shallow lakes and slow rivers
- Harvesting bait frogs for catfish and pike
Skip if
- You need depth beyond 4-8 feet; this gig is for shallow work
- You fish only catch-and-release; gigging kills the catch
Strengths
- Lightweight aluminum shaft reduces fatigue during active gigging
- Telescoping design stores compactly in boat or vehicle
- Lever lock holds chosen length securely during use
Trade-offs
- Aluminum shaft less durable than steel; bends under abuse
- Prong design requires precise aiming; learning curve is steep
- Frogs killed on impact make harvest-only fishing
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
- Skill level
- Intermediate
