Quick take
Small wooden-handle net sized for netting minnows and live bait from buckets and tanks.
This is a small baitwell net with a D-shaped wire hoop, fine-mesh orange nylon netting and a fixed wooden handle. The flat side of the hoop lets you work bait along the wall of a tank or bucket. It suits anglers who keep minnows in a live well and want to pick out one at a time without stressing the rest.
Best for
- Catching and handling live minnows from bait buckets before casting
- Tank netting that does not harm delicate baitfish
- Anglers wanting a classic wooden net for traditional appeal
Skip if
- You need a large net for landing fish; use a landing net instead
- You net in saltwater where wooden handles degrade quickly
Strengths
- D-shaped hoop corners make it easy to trap bait against bucket walls
- Gentle 1/4-inch nylon netting does not damage fish scales or fins
- Wooden handle is comfortable and traditional
- 16-inch handle reaches deep into bait tanks
Trade-offs
- Wooden handle absorbs water and deteriorates over time
- Small 6x6 hoop limits the size of bait you can net at once
- D-shape makes it awkward for all purposes except bucket netting
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Techniques
- Live bait
