Quick take
Fly net with clear rubber mesh that releases magnetically from your vest carabiner while you handle your catch.
This fly fishing set pairs a teardrop-shaped landing net with a magnetic net release. The burl wood frame holds a soft clear rubber mesh meant to stay out of the way of hooks and go easy on a fish's coating, which suits catch-and-release anglers. The release clips to a vest or pack and keeps the net within reach on a retractable coil until you need to scoop a fish.
Best for
- Catch-and-release fly fishing
- Handling delicate trout and salmon safely
- Photographing fish while keeping hands free
Skip if
- You fish small streams where nets get snagged
- You beach fish without moving between spots
Strengths
- Clear rubber mesh won't spook fish or tangle with hooks and tippet
- Soft rubber protects fins and the natural slime coat
- Magnetic release keeps net on your vest yet accessible instantly
Trade-offs
