Quick take
A 4/0 black circle hook with a spear point, sized for catfish on heavy tackle.
This Big Rock Sports 4/0 circle hook is a Gamakatsu Big Cat design with a spear point and a black finish. Its offset point and upturned eye make it easy to snell onto a leader for catfish with tough, thick lips. It comes packed as a set of hooks, so a single pack covers several rigs.
Best for
- Catfish on live or cut bait rigs
- Bottom fishing in large rivers
Skip if
- You fish for small panfish
- You want finesse circle hooks for largemouth bass
Strengths
- Circle hook design self-hooks as the fish turns
- Size 4/0 suits large catfish
- Double treble points improve hook-up rate on hard-mouthed fish
Trade-offs
- Large hook size is too heavy for small freshwater fish
- Circle hooks require a solid hook set; do not jerk on the first bite
- Spear point can be harder to remove from a deeply hooked fish
