Quick take
A 1/0 open-eye bait hook for live bait and cut-bait presentations across freshwater and saltwater.
The Gamakatsu Big River bait hook in size 1/0 has an open, turned-up eye for snelling and a spear point. Its bend slopes further off the back than a standard octopus hook, which leaves room for larger baits. Anglers pair it with spinners, spoons and plugs, and its black finish suits that kind of rig.
Best for
- Panfish and small bass with small live minnows
- Bottom rigs for catfish
- Inshore saltwater bait fishing
Skip if
- You target very large catfish or pike
- You fish with tiny baits under 1 inch
Strengths
- 1/0 size suits panfish and small saltwater species
- Open eye speeds rigging in the field
- NS black finish resists corrosion
Trade-offs

- Open eye can occasionally slip when tightening line
- Spear point less consistent than needle
