Quick take
A 25-pack of Japanese-forged octopus hooks with offset point designed to set naturally in the corner of a fish's mouth.
This Gamakatsu octopus hook is a size 4 with an offset point and a closed eye, forged from steel in a black finish. The circle shape is meant to set in the corner of a fish's mouth, which suits anglers fishing bait in fresh or salt water. It comes as a pack of 25 and is made in Japan.
Best for
- Live bait fishing in freshwater and saltwater with circle hook hooksets
- Anglers seeking minimal fish harm with higher hook-up ratios
- Bait fishing where a offset point aids natural positioning
Skip if
- You prefer J-hooks for more active hookset techniques
- You need hooks for soft plastic presentations
Strengths
- Japanese forging ensures consistent quality and edge retention
- Offset point combined with octopus hook shape promotes corner-of-mouth sets
- Closed eye prevents line slippage and works well with snell knots
Trade-offs
- Size 4 is small and limited to panfish and small baitfish
- Offset design is less versatile than straight J-hooks
- Closed eye requires careful tying and is less beginner-friendly
