Quick take
Size 7/0 circle hooks with offset points designed to catch in the corner of a fish's mouth, reducing gut-hooking on bait.
The Gamakatsu Circle Offset Point Octopus Hook comes in a pack of 25 in size 7/0, with a black nickel finish. Its snelled eye ties straight to a leader, and its offset point is built to set in the corner of a fish's jaw when cut bait or a chunk is taken. It suits bait anglers who fish fresh or salt water.
Best for
- Live bait fishing for salmon and bottom species
- Saltwater and freshwater fishing where hook-ups matter
- Anglers targeting larger fish on heavy line
Skip if
- You fish small baits; these are oversized
- You need a straight eye for certain rigging techniques
Strengths
- Circle point design hooks in the mouth rather than the stomach
- Offset aids hook-setting on passive takes
- Size 7/0 is stout enough for stripers and large bottom fish
Trade-offs
- Not suitable for small baitfish or finesse presentations
- Larger size reduces versatility across species
- Circle hooks can take practice to fish effectively
