Quick take

Wide-gap black worm hooks sized for skipping soft plastics under docks and dense cover.

The Gamakatsu Skip Gap is a 4/0 worm hook sold in a 25-pack, made for skipping soft plastics under docks and along cover. Its wide gap suits thicker baits such as tubes, stick baits and worms. It also works for Texas rigging, Carolina rigging and topwater buzz frog presentations.

Best for

  • Texas rigging and skip-casting soft worms
  • Carolina rig presentations with plastic baits
  • Bass fishing in thick vegetation and wood

Skip if

  • You fish topwater buzzbaits; this hook is too heavy
  • You need smaller hooks for finesse presentations

Strengths

  • Extra-wide gap accommodates thick soft plastics and improves hookups
  • High carbon steel holds a sharp point through hard plastic bodies
  • Made in Japan with Gamakatsu's reputation for hook quality

Trade-offs

  • Large 4/0 size is too heavy for topwater frogs and poppers
  • Black finish may be visible in clear water; red or bronze versions match better
  • Wide gap creates fish-spitting opportunities if drag is set too loose
