Quick take

A 3.75 in creature bait with J-shaped legs for flipping thick cover.

The Gary Yamamoto Cowboy is a 3.75 inch soft plastic creature bait sold in packs of seven, in a green pumpkin color with red flake and fading watermelon laminate. Its bulky body and large J-shaped legs give it a prominent kicking action, and it is aimed at bass anglers. It can be fished Texas rigged, on a Carolina rig, on the back of a jig, or as a trailer on a wobble-head jig.

Best for

  • Flipping and pitching weed mats and wood
  • Carolina rigging on the bottom
  • Pairing with football jigs

Skip if

  • You fish open water only
  • You prefer worms or finesse plastics

Strengths

  • Bulky profile displaces water and attracts bass
  • Large legs create prominent kicking action
  • Secondary appendages add bite-triggering motion

Trade-offs

About this type

A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.

Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.

Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
