Quick take
Foam floats that keep fishing rods afloat when accidentally dropped overboard from a kayak or boat.
This orange set holds six foam floats, each about 8 inches long and 1.5 inches wide, plus 12 hook-and-loop straps. Each float slides onto a rod and fastens with the straps, so a rod dropped over the side of a kayak or boat stays on the surface where its bright color is easy to spot. It suits kayak and boat anglers who fish spinning or casting setups and want a way to keep a rod from sinking.
Best for
- Kayak fishing to prevent losing rods in deep water
- Boat fishing in deep water or rough conditions
- Anglers using valuable or specialized rods
Skip if
- You fish from a beach or shore where rod loss is unlikely
- You need to remove floats frequently; velcro can wear
Strengths
- Bright colors (orange and green options) make rods easy to spot in the water
- Foam is durable, lightweight, and won't absorb water
- Velcro attachment means no modification to the rod
Trade-offs
- Foam adds weight and drag to the rod during normal casting
- Bulky 6-pack of floats takes significant storage space
- Velcro attachment can fail over many cast-and-retrieve cycles
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
